Gallery Night
Thursday, August 21, 5-9 pm

Join us for a Gallery Night Reception featuring live Arabian music by Mounir Ayash & Mohammed Mejhour. Mounir plays the oud and will be singing Arabic songs. He is of Lebanese and Syrian ancestry and has lived in the US all his life. Mohammed will be playing Middle Eastern percussion as well as the nye, an Arabian flute. He is originally from Morocco, although he has lived in the US for many years.

SEPTEMBER

Romard: An Armenian Expressionist
September 2 -October 4, 2008

Armenian artist Romard is a second generation American. Since 1989 he has dedicated his time and energy to his work, which includes oil paintings and sculptures in metal, stone and clay. His artistic influences include Picasso, Cezanne, Van Gogh and Miro. Romard is a fast and spontaneous painter whose abstract works are often very colorful with heavy paint application. He says of his work, “I understand color. I can make it sing for me…I’m not painting the subject; I’m painting the emotion that the subject evokes in me.” Romard divides his time between his homes in Falmouth, on Cape Cod, MA, and St. Paul de Vence in the South of France, where other great painters have also found their inspiration.

Our Loyal Companions: Animals in Art
October 7-November 8, 2008

This exhibition features paintings and sculptures done by artists in the collection that are inspired by their love of animals. Whether as pets, livestock, or in the wild, animals are our constant companions and are captured by these artists as beautiful, strong, and amiable. Artists include Ben Austrian, Mary Jane Q. Cross, Laureen Watjen, Romard, Margo Takian, Najim Aljaf, Al Mandalawi, Owise Sanajlih, and others.
