“Mary Jane Q. Cross has five "brushes" - her fingers. The back of her knuckle is her smallest brush. Using water soluble oils, Cross paints nearly 98 percent with her fingers. Until 1992 she painted classical and realist paintings in the traditional manner. Then, side effects from a popular medication left her with a severe right-sided tremor, forcing her to find alternative means of artistic expression. Looking within, and to God, she reinvented herself as an artist.
Cross has spent the last 13 years participating in outdoor festivals and national exhibitions and competitions, sharing her story and her artwork to encourage others to overcome what they cannot change.
"My paintings are evidence of how I can cope with what I cannot change; it has made me aware that God can write straight with a crooked line. Knowing that all was nearly lost makes me not take painting for granted and keeps me passionate about my work, my Creator and my life," says Cross.” - American Art Collector Magazine #59

Royal Gallery is proud to present Yana Movchan: Love of Gods Creation, a solo exhibition of the newest works of this talented artist. Yana's paintings initially appear almost formal, intricate, and wholly realistic. Further observation reveals fantastical elements that tug at the unconscious mind, hinting at deeper meanings and inviting the viewer to delve yet deeper into the work. This dual character: formal, yet playful, contemporary yet timeless, joyous yet mysterious, is what sets Yana's work apart from the rest.

Royal Gallery is proud to present Symphonies of Italy, an exhibition celebrating the evolution of this inspiration. Works will be shown by Sandra Wakeen, Elizabeth Stone, Lindsay Palermo, Douglas Gillette, Art Scholz, Kelly Leahy-Radding, Beverly Branch, and Rodolfo Ceccotti. The exhibition will run from June 1st to July 25th with an Opening Reception on Thursday, June 17th. To further promote cultural exchange, many of the group's Italian hosts, Federica and Richard Freemantle included, will be 'attending' the reception via a live internet connection! All are invited to view the artwork, enjoy refreshments, and take this very special opportunity to meet both the artists themselves and their new-found Italian friends.

An Ancient Greek legend tells of the masterpieces of two artists, created for a contest to determine who was the greatest of their age. Although the first depicted grapes so ripe that birds swooped down from the sky to peck at the canvas, the prize went to the second piece: a painting of drapery executed so skillfully that even the other artist requested he draw it aside to reveal his work. Whether it be birds or men that are taken in, the allure of still life remains in its capacity to invoke curiosity, surprise, and perhaps even admiration for otherwise commonplace items. Royal Gallery is proud to present a collection of pieces that invite you take a closer look and reconsider what you had originally presumed to see.
