Artist Bio - Bing Cheng

Bing Cheng was born in 1967 in Beijing, China. He graduated with a concentration in sculpture from the Sichuan Art Institution in 1990, where he participated in many major exhibitions. Cheng’s thesis work, Expanse (stone), is part of the permanent collection at the institution. His wife, Du Chun-mei, is also an international artist, having graduated from the Sichuan Art Institute the same year as Cheng. After graduating, Bing Cheng continued to develop his unique artistry and master his technical skills in bronze and marble. He created Sports in Life in 1993, a marble sculpture that won the silver medal at the Third Annual Art Exhibition of China Sports Art Exhibition and was on display at the International Olympic Committee (IOC) headquarters in Switzerland. Other notable works of his include: Three Sisters, part of The National Art Gallery of China collection, Moonlight Song, Mother and Child and the Sea Maiden, which won a prize in 1993 at the International Sculpture Competition held in China. His modern, figurative human forms are influenced strongly by both Western and Chinese art styles.
