Artist Bio - Jane Puerini
Jane Puerini graduated cum laude with a degree in art from Webster University in St. Louis, Missouri. In subsequent years, at home with family, she studied with Herman Itchkawich and Anthony Janello. Now painting full time, she primarily paints still life while also exploring landscape and portrait.
Her work has garnered awards at the Providence Art Club, the Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club (National Arts Club, New York), and the Cranston Cultural Arts Council, as well as having been selected for the Amica Insurance annual card in 2003 and their calendar in 2007. She is an artist member of the Providence Art Club, the Art League of Rhode Island, and the American Artists Professional League.
Puerini paints from her home studio, arranging her subjects in natural light. She paints primarily with a monochromatic underpainting followed by subsequent layering of color, but also more directly on toned canvas. Jane strives to render her subjects faithfully but not photographically. Her work presents the viewer with a new vision of simple everyday objects that might otherwise be overlooked. Fine porcelain or Chinese takeout food are equally suitable subject matter. While her still life subjects offer seasonal diversity and a variety of thematic possibilities, composition, form, value, and color remain prime considerations.
