Artist Bio - Romard
Robert Mardirosian, the artist known as Romard, was born in Boston, Massachusetts in 1934. The second generation Armenian moved to Watertown, Massachusetts when he was five years old.
In 1963, Mardirosian began his first profession as a lawyer and in his twenty-six year career he tried thousands of cases all across the country. He started his own private law practice in 1969, employing 14 full time lawyers. In1989 he changed his profession and his life to become a full time artist.
Romard, his professional name, is a combination of his first and last names. Though Romard has very little formal training, he dedicates his time and energy to his art, which includes painting and metal, stone, and clay sculpture. His artistic influences include Picasso, Cezanne, Van Gogh and Miro. Romard is a fast and spontaneous painter whose abstract works are often very colorful with heavy paint application. He says of his work, “I understand color. I can make it sing for me…I’m not painting the subject; I’m painting the emotion that the subject evokes in me.”
Romard divides his time between his homes in Falmouth, on Cape Cod, and St. Paul de Vence in the South of France, where other great painters have also found their inspiration.
